Anathan Theatre's Taming of the Shrew
March 2014
STEUBENVILLE, OH—Franciscan University of Steubenville’s spring drama production will show that even the most wicked tempers can be calmed, in Shakespeare’s comedy, Taming of the Shrew in Anathan Theatre. One of Shakespeare’s earliest comedies, Taming of the Shrew differs from his other lighthearted plays because it focuses on both courtship and married life after the wedding, which was particularly relevant to English audiences of the Renaissance period.
When Petruchio, a brash young man, arrives in Padua to find a wife, he agrees to marry the wealthy Katherine before meeting her. However, when he encounters her foul temper and insulting nature, he sees that she will need to be tamed.
The play is directed by Professor Shawn Dougherty, Franciscan University drama professor.
